Bacon Brothers, Shirley Jones, Amanda McBroom, et al. Added to Barrington Stage 2009 Season

Barrington Stage Company has announced additional programming for its 15th anniversary season.

The Bacon Brothers — featuring Kevin and Michael Bacon — will perform on the Mainstage on May 30; Amanda McBroom will present a cabaret performance on Stage 2, July 2 and 3; and Academy Award winner Shirley Jones will perform a concert on the Mainstage on July 6.

New additions to the schedule — all on Stage 2 — also include Jenny Allen’s I Got Sick Then I Got Better (May 15-17), directed by James Lapine and Darren Katz; Bill Nelson’s All Male Revue (July 31 and August 1); The Longing and the Short of It:
The Songs of Daniel Matè
(August 7 and 8), and a reading of a new musical, September 5 and 6.

As previously announced, Mainstage productions will include Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel, June 17-July 11, to be directed by BSC’s Artistic Director Julianne Boyd, with choreography by Joshua Bergasse and musical direction by Darren R. Cohen; Anthony Shaffer’s thriller Sleuth (July 16-August 1), directed by Jesse Berger; and Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire, August 6-23.
Stage 2 will showcase the world premiere of Mark St. Germain’s Freud’s Last Session (June 10- 28), directed by Tyler Marchant, followed by Glen Berger’s hit Off-Broadway play Underneath the Lintel (July 28-August 26), directed by Andrew Volkoff.

BSC’s Musical Theatre Lab (MTL), under the direction of Tony Award- winning Composer/Lyricist William Finn, will kick off its fourth season on May 23 and 24 with a staged reading of Poolside at the Hotel Bel Air by Janet Allard and Nikos Tsakalakos. Also on tap are the new musical I’ll Be Damned, by Rob Broadhurst and Brent Black, to run August 13-August 29, and a new edition of the revue, Songs by Ridiculously Talented Composers and Lyricists You Probably Don’t Know, But Should (September 4-6), narrated by Finn. Finally, Barrington Stage Company’s Youth Theatre will present Disney’s High School Musical 2, July 15-August 16, to be directed and choreographed by Christine O’Grady. It will be performed at the First Congregational Church in Pittsfield.
