About This Show

The Waterloo Bridge Theatre Company presents two classic comedies from the 18th Century – Anton Chekhov’s one act The Bear and an abridged version of Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest. In The Bear, a landlord comes to collect the rent and comes away with much more, but not after getting around an overprotective butler and nearly having a duel after teaching his prospective opponent how to shoot. In The Importance of Being Earnest, two English gentlemen living in 1890s London use the same pseudonym (“Ernest”), which is fine until they both fall in love with women using that name, leading to a comedy of mistaken identities.
