I Love a Piano is a look at America through the insightful and hopeful eyes of Irving Berlin, who, according to Jerome Kern, "... has no place in American music. He is American Music." The show, which traces the life of a uniquely flawed upright piano, celebrates the music and lyrics of the legendary composer, showcasing 64 of his more than 1000 songs. From "Alexander's Ragtime Band" to "Blue Skies"; from "Puttin' on the Ritz" and "Cheek to Cheek" to "Always" and "White Christmas" to "Oh, How I Hate to Get Up in the Morning" and "God Bless America", Irving Berlin's songbook is a history lesson set to music. Conceived and written by Ray Roderick and Michael Berkeley, this joyful salute captures the spirit of America from the ragtime rhythms of the early 20th century, through the rich sophistication of the 1920s and 30s; from the rousing patriotism of two World Wars into the prosperous spirit of the 1950s and well beyond.
