He has composed the film scores for Splendor in The Grass, The Manchurian Candidate, The Young Savages and the landmark 1959 documentary Pull My Daisy, narrated by his good friend and collaborator, Jack Kerouac, whose classic book On the Road is considered to be the voice of The Beat Generation.
