The smash hit multi-award winning Broadway musical Hairspray has a book by Mark O'Donnell and Thomas Meehan, music by Marc Shaiman and lyrics by Scott Wittman and Marc Shaiman. The musical is based on the New Line Cinema film, written and directed by John Waters. The musical is directed by Jack O'Brien and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell. and is staged by the entire original Broadway creative team. Featuring Michael Ball as Edna thru 25 October 2008. It's 1962, and Baltimore's Tracy Turnblad wants to dance. When she wins a spot on the local TV dance program The Corny Collins Show, this big girl with big hair becomes a teen celebrity overnight. Soon Tracy finds herself pitted against the show's reigning princess for the title Miss Teenage Hairspray 1962. On Mondays, starting Monday 5 January, kids will go free to the musical Hairspray at the Shaftesbury Theatre. On Mondays, for every full paying adult buying a ticket, Mumsnet will give a child's ticket completely free.
