The intimate Elizabethan Theatre--with three-tiered gallery, carved oak columns, and sky canopy--has walls of timber and plaster. The inner and outer stages, balcony, and "heavens" are reminiscent of an innyard theatre of Shakespeare's time and provide an ideal setting for music by the Folger Consort, for theatrical productions, and for the Folger's many educational programs.
