About This Venue

Co-founded in 1950 by Zelda Fichandler, Thomas C. Fichandler, and Edward Mangum, Arena was an early leader in the resident theater movement. Over the next 40 years, under the visionary leadership of Zelda Fichandler, followed by seven years of artistic leadership from Douglas C. Wager, Arena Stage has evolved into a diverse, multifaceted, internationally renowned institution.
Now in its fifth decade, Arena Stage, continues to provide Washington and the nation with theater of the highest quality.
