Love-Lies-Bleeding
Love-Lies-Bleeding Tickets and Information
Synopsis
For their 30th Anniversary, the world-renowned Steppenwolf Theatre Company presents a continued collaboration with Don DeLillo, one of America's foremost writers. His newest work, Love-Lies-Bleeding is co-produced at the Kennedy Center as part of The Kennedy Center Fund for New American Plays. Moving back and forth in time, the play focuses on the last years of a free-spirited artist, now left invalid after a second stroke. Hovering over the artist's lifeless body is his son, estranged ex-wife and younger wife, locked in metaphysical struggle over his spirit. The remaining three must make the ultimate decision: do they agree to a mercy killing or let him die his natural course? As Delillo masterfully tackles the ethics of their decision, he amplifies what it truly means to be alive. Like the spiky tropical flower that shares its name, Love-Lies-Bleeding is both hauntingly beautiful and sharp as a knife. Amy Morton directs.
