Gem of the Ocean
Gem of the Ocean Tickets and Information
Synopsis
August Wilson's Gem of the Ocean is a powerful and evocative look at the culture and tradition of 20th century African-American life. In 1904 Pittsburgh, the mystical 285-year-old matriarch Aunt Ester leads spiritual journeys to the mythical City of Bones, where the truth has the power to "wash clean" the troubled souls who seek solace in her peaceful house. This Washington premiere of Gem of the Ocean, the ninth play in Wilson's historic, award-winning ten-part series, is presented as a loving tribute to this giant of American theater, who passed away in 2005. Paulette Randall directs. There are three added weekday matinees for Gem of the Ocean: Tuesday, February 6th; Wednesday, February 28th; and Wednesday, March 14th - all at 12:00pm. Group tickets are available by calling 202-488-4380.
