This weekend highlights the work of prominent black artists from the DC area and around the country, including NYC-based dance company INSPIRIT, Minneapolis-based Maia Maiden Works, Shange Dance from Baltimore, choreographers Troy Powell, Quynn Johnson, Reggie Glass, and singer Tamara Wellons. Each day will kick off with master classes: Whitney Hunter and Troy Powell on Saturday and Christal Brown of INSPIRIT on Sunday. The performances begin each at noon and continue all day long, culminating in "Black Expressions: On the Rise!!!" a shared evening concert showcasing the work of three up-and-coming artists: Whitney Hunter, Reggie Cole and Samantha Speis. In between performances, grab a bite to eat and check out the unique wares of vendors set up outside of Dance Place.
