WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
This modern masterpiece, part history, part mystery, calibrates the relationship between the past and the present. RE:Arcadian Paradise
Beautiful play by a living master of the craft. Stoppards Arcadia in this production chugs along like a steam engine fueled by superior performances by the actors Eric Hissom as Bernard Nightengale and Cody Nickel Septimus Hodge.
The set is very nice and the theatre itself --a monument to history and literature--adds its own layer of meaning to this drama about interpeting the past while living in the moment. I would have preferred that the actors playing the two younger women characters Thomasina and Chloe had given stronger, more nuanced performances, but the show functions well and is enjoyable either as a funny romp throuth time in an English country house or as an exploration of literary interpretation through the ages. By all means go if you can!
