The Kennedy Center will present the world premiere of Marco Ramirez's family-friendly Mermaids, Monsters, and the World Painted Purple, October 10-26. The production will be directed by Gregg Henry, with music and orchestrations by Deborah Wicks La Puma and movement coaching by Matthew McGloin.
The work is a series of six interconnected stories drawn from the Latino world, including traditional folklore as well as contemporary pop culture. Ramirez's characters experience adventures with creatures under the sea, monsters in the subway, and even find time to paint the world purple for someone they love.
The cast includes Mauricio Salgado, Michael Russotto, Dawn Ursula, Jenna Sokolowski, Kofi Owusu, and Paige Hernandez. The creative team includes Milagros Ponce de Leon (sets), Catherine Norgren (costumes), Beverly Emmons (lighting), and Elisheba Ittoop (sound).
