Signature Theatre, the 2009 Tony Award winner for Outstanding Regional Theatre,
has announced the line-up for its Sizzlin' Summer Cabaret series, to be presented July 7-24.
The series will kick off on July 7 with Revenge of the Understudies II, featuring performances by the understudies of this season's Signature productions. Helen Hayes Award winner Natascia Diaz will perform July 8 and 9. On July 10, Washington area chanteuse Judy Simmons performs at 7:30 pm, followed by Washington Improv Theatre at 9:30 pm in iMusical: The Improvised Musical. Helen Hayes winner Will Gartshore will perform his cabaret Perfect/Finite on July 11.
The second week of cabarets will start out with Stephen Gregory Smith on July 15, followed by composer Peter Lerman performing his own musical compositions on July 16. Former Broadway Dreamgirl and award-winning artist Julia Nixon will perform on July 17. Tony nominee Euan Morton will take the stage July 18 and 19, comic and cabaret performer Colleen McHugh also performing on July 18. Tony Award-nominee, and star of Signature's upcoming Dirty Blonde, Emily Skinner, will perform on July 21, while Gabriel Kahane, Adam Gwon, Peter Foley, Marisa Michelson and Matt Conner will participate in The Next Generation Composer Cabaret on July 22.
As previously announced, Signature Theatre will launch its 21/24 Signature Lab, a new initiative for the creation of musical theatre works by emerging young composers, with public performances on July 23 and 24. Works will include The Hollow by composer Matt Conner and writer Hunter Foster, directed by Eric Schaeffer, and The Boy Detective Fails by composer Adam Gwon and writer Joe Meno, directed by Joe Calarco. The acting company will include Danny Binstock, Christopher Bloch, Sherri L. Edelen, Eleasha Gamble, James Gardiner, Sam Ludwig, Channez McQuay, Amy McWilliams, Margo Seibert, Thomas Adrian Simpson, Chris Sizemore, Stephen Gregory Smith, Russell Sunday, Stephanie Waters, and Bayla Whitten.
