Imagination Stage has announced programming for its 2009-2010 season of family theater, set to feature six productions.
The season will open with Ferdinand the Bull, September 26-November 1, a Karen Zacarias-Deborah Wicks La Puma musical based on the story by Munro Leaf. Kathryn Chase Bryer will direct. Disney's Mulan will follow, November 25-January 10, bringing the epic story of Mulan and her quest to follow in her father's footsteps to fight the Huns. Based on the 1998 Disney film, the show features music and lyrics by Matthew Wilder and David Zippel, Stephen Schwartz, Jeanine Tesori, and Alexa Junge, adapted by Bryan Louiselle. The book was adapted for the stage by Patricia Cotter. Peter and the Wolf will play February 6-March 21, Allison Gregory's adaptation of the familiar musical tale by Sergei Prokofiev with David S. Leong at the helm.
The Dancing Princesses will premiere April 17-May 30, a fresh take on the Grimm's tale, set in the Roaring 20s, with a book by Allyson Currin, and music and lyrics by Christopher Youstra. Kathryn Chase Bryer will direct. How I Became a Pirate, June 23-August 15, will bring Melinda Long's story to life when Little Jeremy Jacob is accosted on the beach by a motley crew of pirates who recruit him to bury their treasure. Adapted by Alyn Cardarelli, the show features music by Steve Goers with Paul McEneaney at the helm. The season will close with Pirates! A Boy at Sea, July 6-August 15, Charles Way's world premiere comic drama where a modern boy finds himself in the middle of a battle between Captain McGovern and the famous female pirate and treasure hunter, Captain Freely.
