WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Bertolt Brecht's brashly comic parable, The Resistable Rise of Arturo Ui, recasts the rise of Hitler as the story of a cunning gangster taking over the vegetable trade in 1930s Chicago. Exiled from his native Germany and living in Lose Angeles, Brecht lashes out at the mix of fear and complacency that open the doors for despots in any era.
