WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
Rameau's Nephew was too hot to put into print when it was written (1761 - 1776), and author Denis Diderot allowed it to circulate only in manuscript. This early samizdat was rediscovered by Schiller and Goethe and published first in German, launching the Nephew into a continuing career as romantic anti-hero, lunatic, satirist and idiot-visionary.
Lie, cheat, manipulate, make promises and break them, that's how you get ahead in the world -- according to Rameau. In this duel of ideas with "the Philosopher," the Nephew's zingers have an eerily contemporary ring. And to punctuate his argument, he falls into manic demonstrations of music, mimicry and performance art of all kinds. No self-abasement is too low, no ecstatic flight too high - so long as it gets him a good meal, a piece of tail or MONEY, the great Truth he worships as a god. Sound familiar?
Opening night performance and reception Mon, March 13 at 7:30 PM.
Additional performances Friday, March 10 & Saturday, March 11 at 7:30 PM.
