Following the success of its remount of the stirring Host and Guest, Synetic Theater moves into new territory with its production of Dante, the story of one man's journey through the afterlife, encountering the sorrows and terrors of Hell before he is able to attain a glimpse of Paradise. Under the direction of Paata Tsikurishvili, a new twist on the original epic poem takes us through the fantastical and terrifying imagery of hell as it relates to Dante himself and his personal struggle with loss and the darkness within humanity.
Irina Tsikurishvili's heart stopping choreography will breathe life into the vision of the divine, the infernal, and the mind of Dante himself on his long quest for redemption and hope. The award winning Synetic ensemble will embody the circles, the tortured, the blessed, the angels, and the demons that Dante confronts along the way. Ben Cunis and Greg Marzullo, fresh from successes with The Fall of the House of Usher, Romeo and Juliet, and Carmen, will play Dante and Virgil respectively. Natalie Berk will appear as Beatrice, the object of Dante's loss and desire.
The Dante Round Table moderated by Elizabeth Van Den Berg of McDaniel College, will follow the 8 PM performance of Dante on Friday, March 13th. The confirmed panelists for the Dante Round Table are: Tom Simpson, Signature Theater, Les Miserables Cast; Deryl Davis, Author of From Darkness to Light: A Spiritual Journey Through the Divine Comedy; Frank Ambrosio, Georgetown University, Professor of Classics; Paata Tsikurishvili, Synetic Theater, Artistic Director; Ben Cunis, Synetic Theater, Dante Adapter and Cast Member.
Talk-backs with the actors and artistic staff of Dante are planned for, February 26th, March 15th, and March 20th.
