WHAT IS IT ABOUT?
A groundbreaking musical in its time, Allegro is one of the unappreciated gems of the Rodgers & Hammerstein repertoire. In the tradition of last season's 110 In The Shade, Eric Schaeffer will direct a revised, revitalized and re-imagined version of this forgotten classic. In Our Town style, this before-its-time musical explored one man's life and times - in a way still fresh and timely today. With new orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick and a revised book by Joe DiPietro (I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change), Allegro brings the world a new Rodgers & Hammerstein musical.

With the backing of the Rodgers and Hammerstein Organization, a thoroughly reworked book by Joe DiPietro, and new orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick, Schaeffer has been given the chance to put his own stamp on the work of the long deceased masters and to once and for all make this rarely performed show a solid hit.
Perhaps it's more accurate to say Schaeffer has generally succeeded; the show is a hit, but not a solid one. The story is[...]
