A Flag is Born was written by Ben Hecht, co-creator of classics like Front Page and Chicago, to raise the public's awareness of the plight of those who endured and survived the Holocaust. The mission of the play was to make others aware of a proposal to repatriate the remnants of Europe's Jews to Palestine (as Israel was then called), to recognize a Homeland for the survivors and to resist British rule in Palestine. The hope was that a new nation would be built so that all faiths could live in dignity.
