As You Like It starts performances at Synetic Theater this evening.

Though presented solely with movement, the story line of the play, updated to the present, recalls Shakespeare's original. After being forced to flee from their careful and luxurious lives, the clever Rosalind and her devoted cousin Celia find themselves in the streets of an urban wasteland. Everything changes, however, when Rosalind encounters the distraught Orlando, who does not recognize the object of his affections in disguise. A purely physical interpretation with no dialogue, the show’s choreography is a thought-provoking exploration of the nature of traditional gender roles, societal class, and love.

Adapted from Shakespeare's comedy and directed by Paata Tsikurishvili, the show is choreographed by Irakli Kavsadze and features Taylor Robinson as Rosalind, Sharisse Taylor as Celia, Will Hayes as Touchstone, Francesca Blume as Audrey, Philip Fletcher as Orlando, Scott Turner as Oliver, Scott Brown as Jaques, Laura Artesi as Phebe, Vato Tsikurishvili as Silvius, Irakli Kavsadze as Duke Frederick and Duke Senior, and Konstantine Lorkipanidze as Amiens. Irina Kavsadze, Anna Lynch, and Shu-nana Chu compose the ensemble.

The creative team includes Anastasia Simes (set design), Kendra Rai (costume design), Brian Allard (lighting design), Thomas Sowers (sound design), Ben Cunis (fight choreographer), and Marley Giggey (stage manager).

Performances will run through January 17.
