Dial "M" for Murder begins its run this evening at Olney Theatre Center.

The basis of the much-loved Hitchcock film, the play centers on former tennis star, Tony Wendice. After marrying the sweet and naive Margot for her money, Tony plans the perfect murder to get a hold of the fortune. When the plan unravels, however, Inspector Hubbard from Scotland Yard, and murder mystery writer Max Halliday, who happens to be an old flame of Margot’s, mount a hair-raising investigation. How the lies and deceit will end up is left down to the last possible, chilling moment.

Olney Theatre Center associate artistic director Jason King Jones directs this production, which was written by Frederick Knott. The cast features James Konicek as Lesgate, Cameron McNary as Max, Ashley Smith as Tony, Nisi Sturgis as Margo, and Alan Wade as Inspector Hubbard.

"I love Dial 'M' because it preceded our love for the crime dramas that have become a mainstay of American entertainment," says Jones. "It is not a traditional 'whodunnit' so much as it keeps us watching to see if Tony will get away with it. And this cast makes it so much fun to root for and against various characters."

The creative team includes Charlie Calvert (set design), Seth Gilbert (costume design), Sonya Dowhaluk (lighting design), Roc Lee (sound design), and Elisabeth A. Ribar (stage manager).

Performances will run through May 1.
