Carousel begins performances at the Olney Theatre Center tonight. Billy Bigelow is a carousel barker married to the love of his life, Julie Jordan. However, after a series of unfortunate events, he takes part in a bank robbery. Fifteen years after it all went wrong he’s given a chance to make it right with Julie and the daughter he never got to meet. The musical features classic songs such as "You’ll Never Walk Alone," "If I Loved You," and "Soliloquy."

The musical, with book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II and music by Richard Rodgers, is being directed by Jason Loewith and choreographed by Tommy Rapley. It features Tally Sessions as Billy Bigelow, Carey Rebecca Brown as Julie Jordan, Dorea Schmidt as Carrie Pipperidge, Eugenio Vargas as Enoch Snow, Delores King Williams as Nettie Fowler, Eileen Ward as Mrs. Mullins, Chris Genebach as Jigger, Maya Brettell as Louise, and J. Morgan White as Carnival Boy.

"It’s got unforgettable characters, moments of pure theatrical magic and the lushest and most resonant music Rodgers and Hammerstein ever wrote, centered on a passionate quest for redemption," says Olney Theatre Center artistic director Jason Loewith. "I’m trying not to feel too much pressure, but it’s kind of the greatest musical of all time."

The creative team includes Milagros Ponce De Leon (set design), Seth Gilbert (costume design), Jen Schriever (lighting design), Tony Angelini (sound design), and Zachary Borovay (projections design).

Performances will run through May 10.
