Bowman Wright (Arena Stage’s The Mountaintop) will take on the role of King in August Wilson’s classic drama King Hedley II at Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater, the company has announced. Performances are scheduled to run from February 6-March 8 on the Fichandler Stage. Timothy Douglas will direct.

King Hedley II is the ninth installment of Pulitzer Prize winner August Wilson’s Century Cycle. It follows a scarred ex-convict who has the chance to lock away his past and achieve an entrepreneurial dream.

Wright was last seen as Martin Luther King Jr. in The Mountaintop. Theater credits include Our Lady of Kibeho at Signature Theatre Company and TogDog/UnderDog at Marin Theatre Company.

Wright joins the previously announced E. Faye Butler as Ruby. Butler returns to Arena Stage for the first time since appearing in last season's Smokey Joe’s Café. Previous Arena credits include Pullman Porter Blues, Trouble in Mind, Oklahoma!, Crowns, and Ain’t Misbehavin’, among others.
