David Selby and David Emerson Toney to Star in Ford’s Theatre’s Necessary Sacrifices
David Selby and David Emerson Toney will star in the world premiere of Richard Hellesen’s Necessary Sacrifices, to run January 20-February 12 at Ford’s Theatre. The production, which opens officially on January 25, will be directed by Jennifer L. Nelson
In the play, Hellesen explores the two documented encounters between Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln during the summers of 1863 and 1864, as Douglass challenges the president to envision a post-emancipation world.
Hellesen’s previous works for Ford’s Theatre include One Destiny, Investigation: Detective McDevitt, and The Road from Appomattox.
