By Andy Propst • Nov 16, 2011 • Washington, DC
The 2011 Tony Award-winning revival of Larry Kramer's The Normal Heart will launch a national tour with an engagement at Arena Stage, running June 8 - July 29. George C. Wolfe, who staged the revival on Broadway, will once again direct the production, which will replace the previously announced Like Water for Chocolate in the company's season. Scheduling conflicts and changes in the creative team have necessitated the programming change.

The play focuses on the terrifying early years of the AIDS epidemic in New York Casting, along with tour details, will be announced in the near future.

The creative team will include David Rockwell (scenic design), Martin Pakledinaz (costume design), David Weiner (lighting design), David Van Tieghem (sound design and original music) and Batwin & Robin (projection design).

In related news, Arena Stage that the previously reported production of Tazewell Thompson's play Mary T. & Lizzy K., has been postponed due to recent cuts in the theater's funding.

Patrons who had tickets to Like Water for Chocolate will be issued new tickets to The Normal Heart. Patrons with tickets to Mary T. & Lizzy K. will be credited for the value of their tickets. Patrons with questions may call the Arena Stage Sales Office at 202-488-3300.
