Leslie Uggams to Receive Arena Stage’s American Artist Award

Leslie Uggams will receive the American Artist Award, recognizing her significant contribution to American theater, at Arena Stage’s 2011/12 Season Opening Celebration, to be held on September 15 at Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater. The evening will raise funds for the theater’s community and educational programs.

Uggams won a Tony Award for Hallelujah, Baby!. Among her other Broadway credits are Anything Goes, Blues in the Night, and On Golden Pond. She is also an Emmy Award-winning actress and popular recording artist.

In addition to the award presentation, the event features cocktails and dinner, followed by the opening night performance of Alice Childress’ Trouble in Mind.
