Olney Theatre Center has announced that Martin Platt has been appointed to the position of artistic director at the company.

Platt, who began his tenure at Olney on May 28, comes from a position as co-director of Perry Street Theatricals, a New York based producing company. After graduating from Carnegie-Mellon University, Platt founded the Alabama Shakespeare Festival (ASF), where he served as Artistic Director for eighteen years. He then served as General Director of Birmingham Opera Theatre and Artistic Director of the New Mexico Repertory Theatre and founded Santa Fe Stages. Platt has also directed at many of America’s leading regional theatres as well as in New York.

Platt was selected after a nation-wide search which began in fall 2011. On June 16, he will unveil Olney Theatre Center’s 75th anniversary season.
