Kathleen Turner to Star in Red Hot Patriot at Arena Stage

Kathleen Turner will star in Red Hot Patriot: The Kick-Ass Wit of Molly Ivins, at Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater, as the kick off to the company’s 2012/2013 season. David Esbjornson will direct the production, which will perform in the Arlene and Robert Kogod Cradle, August 23-October 28, 2012.

Written by twin-sister journalists Margaret Engel and Allison Engel, the show is based on the writings of the late political journalist Molly Ivins, the brassy Texan reporter whose liberal journalism skyrocketed her to the national stage.

The creative team will include set designer John Arnone, costume designer Elizabeth Hope Clancy, lighting designer Daniel Ionazzi, sound design/composition by Robert Milburn and Michael Bodeen, video designer Maya Ciarrochi and wig designer Paul Huntley.

Turner originated her role during the show’s 2010 world premiere from Philadelphia Theatre Company, and also played it at during its recent run at the Geffen Playhouse, with both those productions also directed by Esbjornson. Among Turner’s Broadway credits are High, Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, The Graduate, and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof . Her many film credits include War of the Roses, Romancing the Stone, Prizzi’s Honor, Body Heat, and Peggy Sue Got Married.
