Olney Theatre Center for the Arts has announced that Jason Loewith (Adding Machine: A Musical) has joined the company as Artistic Director, just in time for the Center’s 75th anniversary season. Loewith is a prolific theater practitioner with experience as a producer, director, playwright, and dramaturg.

Loewith co-wrote Adding Machine: A Musical with composer Joshua Schmidt (The Minister’s Wife). He produced the musical’s world premiere at Chicago’s Next Theatre Company, where he served as Artistic Director from 2002-2008. The Chicago Tribune named the production one of the best theater events of 2007. Adding Machine transferred to the Minetta Lane Theater off-Broadway in 2008, where it enjoyed a six month run. The show won Lucille Lortel and Outer Critics Circle awards for Best New Musical.

During his time with Next, Loewith directed a dozen regional premier productions of new plays. Since relocating to Washington D.C. in 2009, Loewith has directed new plays for Atlanta’s Alliance Theatre, D.C.’s Studio Theatre, as well as Baltimore’s Everyman Theatre and Centerstage State Theater of Maryland.

Olney Theatre Center is a nonprofit Equity theater located in Montgomery County, Maryland. Olney’s 75th Anniversary season will open with the Tony Award-winning musical Spring Awakening on February 9.
