Solo performer Daniel Beaty celebrated the official opening of his new show, The Tallest Tree in the Forest, at Washington, D.C.'s Arena Stage. In this chronicle of the controversial life and career of African-American icon Paul Robeson, Beaty portrays over 40 characters as he speaks and sings Robeson's fascinating story.
In true D.C. fashion, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg was in attendance, as well as the production's director Moisés Kaufman, Arena Stage Artistic Director Molly Smith, and two-time Tony-nominated actress Kathleen Turner, who will soon star in the Arena Stage production of Mother Courage and Her Children. During the evening's festivities, Turner received the American Artist Award, presented by Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge of Ohio, whom the theater in turn presented with the American Voice Award.
