Nick Blaemire's new musical, Soon, which began performances at Arlington, Virginia's Signature Theatre on March 10, recently celebrated its opening night. The show starts at the end of the world, when, after the hottest summer in human history, all of earth’s water is near to evaporating. In light of this, 20something Charlie takes to her couch despite the protests of her boyfriend, mother, and roommate, who all encourage her to enjoy life. The more time Charlie spends remembering, however, the clearer the reasons behind her self-imposed hibernation become.

Directed by Matthew Gardiner, with book, music and lyrics by Blaemire, the musical features Jessica Hershberg as Charlie, Joshua Morgan as Steven, Alex Brightman as Jonah, and Natascia Diaz as Adrienne.

The creative team includes Brian Tovar (lighting design), Frank Labovitz (costume design), Daniel Conway (set design), Lane Elms (sound design), Matthew Haber (projection design), Charlie Rosen (orchestrator and arrangements), Darius Smith (music director and conductor), and John Keith Hall (stage manager). Soon is produced in association with Tricia Small. Performances continue through April 26.
