Signature Theatre has announced plans to present a workshop of the new musical SCKBSTD as part of its SigWorks program. The show, which is written by Grammy Award-winning composer and lyricist Bruce Hornsby, lyricist Chip deMatteo, and book writer Joe Calarco, is based on an original book by Clay McLeod Chapman. The workshop will culminate in an invitation-only presentation.

Broadway veterans Jeremy Kushnier (Jesus Christ Superstar), Emily Skinner (Billy Elliot: The Musical), and Brian Charles Johnson (American Idiot) will lead the cast. The ensemble will include Alex Alferov, Jody Ashworth, Sherri Edelen, Lesley Hamilton, James Konicek, David Landstrom, Kevin McAllister, Ines Nassara, Nova Y. Payton, Tom Simpson, Chris Sizemore, John Leslie Wolfe, and Signature in the Schools apprentice Abby Hendricks.

SCKBSTD is described as "a coming of age story that explores how society treats those regarded as other." The show takes place during a single day in a small Virginia town where for weeks a stranger has been driving ominously through, causing fear and paranoia. SCKBSTD premiered in 2011 at Virginia Stage Company, in Norfolk.

The musical features direction by Joe Calarco, music directed by Jodie Moore, and musical supervision by Kimberly Grigsby.

SigWorks: Monday Night New Play Readings is a new initiative to highlight and support the work of DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) and regional playwrights.
