Signature Theatre's production of the classic John Kander and Fred Ebb musical Cabaret starts its run tonight. Directed and choreographed by Signature associate artistic director Matthew Gardiner, the production will star Wesley Taylor as the Emcee, Barrett Wilbert Weed as Sally Bowles, Rick Foucheaux as Herr Schultz, Naomi Jacobson as Fraulein Schneider, Bobby Smith as Ernst, Maria Rizzo as Fraulein Kost, and Gregory Wooddell as Cliff.

The musical centers on American writer Cliff Bradshaw and takes the audience back to early 1930s Berlin just as the Nazis are rising to power. Cliff is searching for inspiration and finds it in English club performer Sally Bowles, and the two start a torrid love affair. Outside the club, the Nazis grow ever more powerful, and the world stands on the precipice of great tragedy.

"Kander and Ebb’s Cabaret is a perfect grand finale to our 25th Anniversary Season," said artistic director Eric Schaeffer. "Our original production in 1995 was a huge success and it's always thrilling to have John and Fred's work on our stage. This new production has been in the works for years and it's exciting to Willkommen our audiences back to the Kit Kat club."

The creative team includes Misha Kachman (set design), Frank Labovitz (costume design), Jason Lyons (light design), Lane Elms (sound design), Jon Kalbfleisch (music direction), Kelly D’Amboise (associate choreographer), Anne Nesmith (wig design), Leigh Wilson Smiley (dialect coach), Kerry Epstein (stage manager), and Karen Currie (assistant stage manager).

Performances will run through June 28.
