Tony Award winners Bernadette Peters and Michael Cerveris will join D.C.-area favorites Will Gartshore and Eleasha Gamble in helping Virginia’s Signature Theatre honor Stephen Sondheim at their gala benefit on Monday, April 27 at the Embassy of Italy.

The theater will present Sondheim with the first annual Sondheim Award. In the future, the award will be presented to individuals for their career contributions to interpreting, supporting, and collaborating on Sondheim’s musical works.

Over the past 17 years, Signature has produced almost all of Sondheim’s musicals. In addition, the company’s artistic director, Eric Schaeffer, directed the Broadway production of the Sondheim revue Putting It Together and oversaw the Kennedy Center’s 2002 Sondheim Celebration.

Tickets to the Signature gala begin at $650 and can be ordered by calling 571-527-1828 or visiting www.signature-theatre.org.
