Watch the Young Stars of City Center's Runaways Perform Songs of Elizabeth Swados

The production is now playing as part of the Encores! Off-Center series.

Elizabeth Swados' Runaways, now playing at New York City Center as part of the Encores! Off-Center series, is inspired by interviews that the late musical-theater writer conducted with real-life children who had run away from home. The show premiered at the Public Theater on February 21, 1978, before moving to Broadway's Plymouth Theatre that spring where it ran for 274 performances. Now back on the New York stage, City Center's Runaways features a cast of teen actors, selected during an open audition. See the kids' take on Swados' music in this video of highlights from the production.
