In 1996, future Tony winner Chuck Cooper was appearing as a standby in Stephen Sondheim and George Furth's comedy thriller Getting Away With Murder. As you might suspect from the show's title, every night Cooper was witness to several onstage homicides. But one evening, things went further than Cooper could have ever imagined when gunman John Rubinstein was forced to take matters (and necks) into his own hands.
