Sexy Hollywood Noir: Bobby Cannavale Gives a Sneak Peak of The Big Knife on Broadway

We speak with Cannavale and director Doug Hughes about their revival of Clifford Odets' nail-biter.

TheaterMania spoke with star Bobby Cannavale and Director Doug Hughes about the first new production of Clifford Odets' The Big Knife since its premiere on Broadway in 1949. Cannavale tells us why he has been obsessed with the Hollywood thriller for fifteen years, and why Odets was the "original hipster." Hughes says The Big Knife is really a love story, with the gleam of Hollywood as a backdrop. Either way, Broadway and noir fans alike should prepare to see black and white as they enter the world of Hollywood star Charlie Castle (Cannavale), opening on April 16 at Roundabout Theatre Company's American Airlines Theatre.
