Queen Helen Mirren Joins Her Prime Ministers on Opening Night of The Audience

Even Margaret Thatcher gives her long-reigning monarch a rave review.

Helen Mirren's Oliver Award-winning portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II officially hit Broadway last night as Peter Morgan's The Audience celebrated its royal opening at the Schoenfeld Theatre. TheaterMania spoke with the newly dubbed Queen of the Great White Way along with the men (and woman) who play the 12 prime ministers who have passed through Parliament during the British monarch's 60-year reign. As each character takes a turn in front of the Queen for his or her weekly "audience," each actor gets a chance to experience the majesty of Mirren one on one in front of a Broadway audience — a privilege none of them can help gushing about.
