Oscar Nominee José Rivera Illuminates Another Word for Beauty

The film veteran will use his time at Vassar's Powerhouse Theater to delve deeper into what it means to be incarcerated.

Later this month, Oscar nominee José Rivera (The Motorcycle Diaries), director Steve Cosson, and much of the original cast of their play Another Word for Beauty will head upstate to present a musical workshop as part of Vassar and New York Stage and Film's Powerhouse Theater season. It will be only the second time Rivera has had the opportunity to see the show, which premiered earlier this year at Chicago's Goodman Theatre, on its feet, and he intends to make the most of the opportunity. "I hope to go deeper and deeper," he told TheaterMania, into issues like, "What does it mean to be incarcerated?" and "What does it mean to yearn for freedom?"
