Off-Broadway’s PigPen Theatre Company, (NOT) Live and Uncensored!

Blown soundbytes and “binders full of women!” Our favorite outtakes from The Old Man and the Old Moon’s hot theater company.

The boys of off-Broadway’s PigPen Theatre Company can pretty much do it all—sing, act, write, play non-bandcamp musical instruments like banjos and accordions while wearing suspenders. What they can’t always do is nail a soundbyte. Which is great, because no one can, and if they’d rolled into their video interview with TheaterMania this fall speaking in perfect quotes we would have had to fear, rather than love, them. With off-Broadway bidding adieu to PigPen’s innovative hit original play (with music), The Old Man and the Old Moon, on January 6, we decided to say our tearful goodbyes by pulling bits of the group’s original interview off our cutting room floor and slapping them together to reveal a new side of the company. Is The Old Man… a hipster musical? Did someone really say “binders full of women?” Can Matt Nuernberger sell his show in fives takes or less? Click to find out, then check out the original video for assurance these guys are brilliant.
