Lin-Manuel Miranda, Michael Mayer, and More Introduce 2013 New York Stage and Film Powerhouse Theater Season

A look behind the scenes at the creation of new theatrical works.

Every summer, over 250 professional artists flock to the scenic campus of Vassar College to develop and produce new works for theater and film. Powerhouse Theater, a collaboration between Vassar and New York Stage and Film, has been responsible for helping to create Broadway and off-Broadway productions including Sons of the Prophet, Murder Ballad, American Idiot, and the Tony Award-winning Sideman.

At the 2013 Powerhouse season’s New York City press launch on Tuesday, June 4, TheaterMania chatted with many of the creative artists whose works will be produced this year, including The Hamilton Mixtape’s Lin-Manuel Miranda and Thomas Kail; Seth Zvi Rosenfeld and Scott Elliott of Downtown Race Riot; When the Lights Went Out playwright Mozhan Marnò; and composer/lyricist Peter Lerman and director Michael Mayer, who are collaborating on a new musical about hipster superheroes from Brooklyn.
