See highlights from the weekendlong event's fabulous opening number.

Christmas in January has arrived for theater geeks. BroadwayCon 2017 kicked off off with a full-scale 45-minute musical opening ceremony on January 27. The show, penned by Ryan Scott Oliver (Jasper in Deadland), told the story of a corrupt Mayor (Matilda's Lesli Margherita) who tries to ban Broadway, only to be stopped by a man named Carl (Sam Tanabe). Guest appearances included Tony winners Alice Ripley (Next to Normal), James Monroe Iglehart (Aladdin, Hamilton), and more. Here are highlights. See who you can spot.
