Jason Robert Brown on the Inspiration Behind Honeymoon in Vegas' "I Love Betsy"

The Tony-winning composer found his way into the show’s lively opening number with a little help from the Muppets.

Jason Robert Brown's most recent Broadway offering was Honeymoon in Vegas, a musical based on the 1992 romantic comedy of the same name. During a recent sitdown at SubCulture, the Tony-winning composer revealed that the adaptation's most difficult song to write was its opening number, "I Love Betsy," which sets up the show's zany plot. It took until the final stretch of the writing process, but Brown finally cracked it open — and he has Jim Henson to thank.
