I Hope I Get It: Stories From the Audition Room With Hedwig and the Angry Inch's Original Yitzhak

Miriam Shor remembers her first audition in NYC, which happened to be for a career-making role in John Cameron Mitchell and Stephen Trask's now-cult musical.

As a beautiful, young actress right out of college, Miriam Shor was a little put off that her first audition in NYC was for the part of "a Croatian ex-drag queen — a man to be played by a woman." At the opening night for the Broadway premiere of Hedwig and the Angry Inch over a decade later, Shor told TheaterMania how she nevertheless threw herself into the audition. And presumably at some point she learned that the show wasn't called Hedgewick and the Angry Itch.
