After More Than a Decade, Chita Rivera Brings Kander and Ebb's The Visit to Broadway

Rivera stars in the musical, one of the final collaborations between the famous songwriting team.

It's taken The Visit, John Kander, Fred Ebb, and Terrence McNally musical inspired by Friedrich Dürrenmatt's 1956 satire, nearly 15 years to get to Broadway. Despite that long time frame and the death of lyricist Ebb, the collaborators and their Tony-winning star, Chita Rivera, have remained committed to the piece. The musical is finally getting its New York berth, beginning March 26 at the Lyceum Theatre. At a recent press preview, Rivera, costar Roger Rees, and other members of the cast and creative team gave TheaterMania the lowdown on this emotional new project, which happens to be one of Kander and Ebb's final musicals.
