Having seen the superb London production in 2009, I was not expecting to be blown away by this superlative revival on Broadway. David Leveaux has brought together a cast which deserve many accolades; they inhabit their roles, and appear to enjoy every second on stage. The standout performances come from all the 19th century cast, especially Tom Riley as Septimus Hodge. Funny, snarky and sexy, his performance centred the play. Raul Esparza is also very fine as Valentine Coverly. The set design, as in London, is perfect, the costumes beautiful and the whole production totally enchanting. Often hilarious, expect an intoxicatingly clever Stoppard play full of love, sex, and mystery across 2 centuries. I want to go back and see it all over again.
