Thoroughly Baffling and Disappointing
I sat through The House of Blue Leaves tonight, wondering how it could get worse, but it continued to do so from the opening scene till the end. Its hard to describe a play that is generally well acted by its leads but is so thoroughly horrible overall. Though its still in previews, theres no tweaking thats going to make this play fly. The story is totally ridiculous, the second act is painful. Characters like the three nuns, the son, the MP, Billy and his deaf girlfriend enter in the second act and make the play absurd, unfortunately not comically absurd but ridiculously absurd. This play is a total stinker. Ben Stiller: please watch this play on video tape in its entirety and leave before your name gets associated with it.
