Dreadfully boring and confusing!
I saw audience members falling asleep within ten minutes of the play start and a lot of them walking out during intermission--The Irish Rep can certainly do a lot better than this 1874 bore. I keep thinking about throughout the play: why am I wasting my time? Dont blame the actors or the directior. In fact, they did an excellent job, but the play itself is not funny and should not have been revived. Skip this one--and youll be glad you did.

Truly an amazing feast for the eyes and mind!
Beatiful to see--visually inspring and stunning! The acting is superb and the play is provocative and timeless! This is truly what theater should be. Excellent--thats all I can say.

Engaging and poweeful theater!
The acting by all five actors is simply amazing--there is a real chemistry on stage. The play itself is so engaging and honest that it makes one think: Can playwrights write this openly in todays PC world?

Too long, often boring, and self indulgent!
Sure the acting is great and its so refreshing to see an original play on Broadway. BUT really!?? This play is way too long and should have been cut to two acts max two hours and audiences dont have to be hit over the head with symbolism, ancient Anglo-Saxon and biblical allusions, and characterizations of drug dealers, abusive parents, drunks, drug addicts, and totally misguided teenagers that have no redeeming qualities. In fact, this play has the potential of being excellent if it werent so self indulgent. After act one, I kept on asking myself: where is this play going? I asked myself the same question after act two. And when the curtains finally fell, I said to myself: this play went nowhere.

RE:Interesting play, but is the message?
Great acting and some very special moments, but what was the playwrights message? I left the theater feeling that the play was incomplete and a bit neurotic. What is it saying about marriage? Parenthood? Can we ever find happiness? Can love ever last? Yes, its a depressing play.
Also the characters were so annoying that I stopped caring about them. In fact, Victoria, the crying baby, is the only character I truly cared about.

Just go and enjoy it for what it is! A fun show!
I truly do not understand all of the negative reviews and comments about this feel good and heartfelt musical. We went in expecting a terrible show. How wrong we were! We simply loved it and had a great time going down memory lane with one timeless song after another. And, yes, there is a touching true story about a woman who wants to follow her heart and her passions--and be more than just a New Jersey housewife and mother . In 1958 this was a major conflict. Many themes are explored such as interracial relationships, war, racism, sexism, and the corruption of the music bussiness.
At last nights eletricfying performance, we laughed, sang along, and had a delightful evening at the theater. And by the looks of it, the rest of the audience also enjoyed this colorful and often clever musical as much as we did. The acting, singing, dancing, and staging couldnt have been better. It deserved its standing ovation. See it before it closes on September 4. You wont regret it.

Important, relevant theater
Do not miss this powerful play about the power of love, the individual's fight to understand government corruption and unwarranted international policies in the Middle East, and the control of the media. The talented actors do this beautifully poetic and intelligent play justice. Even though this play was written in 1988, it is even more significant and revelant today.

What a waste of time and talent!
Totally offensive and shameful. This musical is a total mess! One can only feel sorry for its poor actors who have to submit themselves to such nonsense 8 times a week. I walked out this play with a headache and a strong desire to scream. Yes, it's that bad.

In one word: terrible! Doesn't come close to the original. The sets and dancing are right on... Everything else is way off. What a shame considering that the material is so good. Avoid this tourist trap!

Offensive, racist, sexist, and not funny
A lot of hype and no real substance. Vulgar and pessimistic--- we are hit over our heads with the conflict and the problem... But no possible answers or solutions are remotely offered. There is no real humanity in any of the characters-- they seemed so cartoonist. In fact, the people around me at theater shook their heads and looked at each other at the end of the play as if to say: is this it?

RE:A must see! An eye opener for Americans.
Yes, if you see all three plays, its long and at times tiring and demanding of you as an audience member . But its well worth it. It cetainly opened my eyes to this misunderstood and complex country and its people who have been the true victims of foreign greed and corruption. The actors are truly amazing and the plays although uneven in quality and content are interesting, disturbing, and relevant. See it! You wont regret it.

Granted: the play is uneven and act one is all over the place. But its visually stunning and the acting is excellent. Act two makes up for act one. iIts a very moving play and it will make you think about racism and American history in a different way. GO SEE IT!!

This is a wonderfully creative, wacky, and fun musical--very original, colorful sets and costumes, and bouncy songs with intelligent lyrics. All of the actors were absolutely great and way out there--especially Patti Lupone and Patti Benanti. Again, the critics got it wrong with this delighful musical comedy! Treat yourself and go with it. Have fun!
