If it doesn't say "Disney", don't expect Disney
attended Feb. 27 -- Hilarious black comedy providing an opportunity for Walken to showcase his psychotic side brilliantly. One more great big feather in Martin McDonaghs cap year after year, one of the most follow-worthy playwrights working today.

RE:Post racial ? Who me ?
This is a hilariously probing look at the persistence of race as an issue writ large in our lives. It needs some serious trimming its a work-in-progress, but if theyre judiciously made theres five-star potential here. On the whole brilliantly acted, btw.

Don't sit in the balcony !
Brilliant acting makes up for any shortcomings in the writing and direction, imho. Its not a feel-good exercise, but an interesting look at the contrasting dangers/limitations experienced by gays separated by half a century. Well, well worth the money. Dont sit upstairs, though, the sight-lines are inexcusably bad.

good for a laugh, but not much more
The material here would likely have made a better stand-up act than a two-act play. Valerie Harper was a hoot when throwing off one-liners, but far from stellar when things got serious. And Brian Hutchinson foil to Valerie was miles away from being convincing. The sexual wisecracking might have been shocking 50 years ago, but its a bit like a "naughty" Las Vegas night-club comedy routine now.

Not just for the Irish
Saw the final performance. This show was beautifully done. Although many of the lines that elicited big laughs werent so funny if youre unfamiliar with Irish culture, there was plenty sufficiently universal to keep the non-Irish on track. Be careful not to sit in the first row if youre shy about being pulled into one story line or another.

th art of making art
Tremendous, rapid paced fun look inside the mind of Mark Rothko as he struggles with a set of paintings to adorn the walls of a new, ultra-high-end restaurant in Manhattan. Molina and Redmayne give boffo performances. If youre interested in art, in its history, in the clash between its commercial and "art" sides, itll probably be up your alley. If if youre not, but youre a fan of quality acting, dont hesitate.

soars above most B'way shows
It may make you angry, make you laugh, make you cry, and theres a good chance youll experience all three. Bobby Steggerts performance shows why its silly to think the Tony awards represent the highest quality work in the NYC theater. If you miss this, give yourself a great big kick not too hard, though, as it appears, theres a Bway transfer in the offing.

save your money
And giving 1 Star is generous. Theres an interesting germ of an idea here, but the play just doesnt work. Its difficult to know who deserves the lions share of the fault, but theres some for everybody . Acting that rarely convinces, and not just the lead; choreography that simply has no purpose, however competently executed; subplots that served no purpose; lackluster direction. Seriously, save your money.

Prepare to laugh
Attended the show on April 11. Dan Butler was off, the understudy on. The theater was full and shook with laughter for 90 minutes. The acting was largely first rate, particularly Roderick Hill in a central role. You dont have to be Irish to have a good time at this male analog of the Vagina Monologues a borrowed characterization.
