World-renowned choreographer Mark Morris' new piece
Romeo & Juliet: On Motifs of Shakespeare, set to the music of Sergei Profokiev, launches an international tour. The first stop, July 4-9 at the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts at Bard College. At that engagement, the music will be performed live by Leon Botstein and the American Symphony Orchestra, while Stefan Osbury will conduct resident orchestras for the rest of the production's tour.
The production will feature two alternating casts, one led by Maile Okamura, Noah Vinson, Terri Weskler, and Guillermo Resto, and the other led by Rita Donahue, David Leventhal, Megan Williams, and Shawn Gannon. The creative team includes Allen Moyer (sets), Martin Pakledinaz (costumes), and James F. Ingalls (lighting).
The tour will play the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts at Bard College (July 4-9); Zellerbach Hall in Berkeley, California (September 25-28); the Barbican Centre in London (November 5-8); the Krannet Center for the Performing Arts in Urbana, Illinois (March 13-14); the Virginia Arts Festival in Norfolk, Virginia (May 8-10), and the Rose Theater at New York's Lincoln Center (May 14-17). An additional stop is tentatively planned at Chicago's Harris Theatre for Music and Dance in September 2009.
